What Happens During a Photoshoot Session?

Get to know the ins and outs of a professional photoshoot session from preparation to getting your final images.

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever wondered what happens behind the scenes before, during and after a photoshoot session at a photography studio? Understanding what happens can help you feel more at ease and confident. In this blog, we’ll take you behind the scenes and walk you through the steps involved in a typical photoshoot session.

CONSULTATION

After you book your session, you’ll likely have a consultation with the photographer. Although not necessary, a consultation is a great way to discuss your goals, purpose of the photoshoot and your desired image(s).

For example, let’s say you booked a professional headshot session. The photographer will guide you through different headshot styles, what color background to use, etc. Typically, the consultation will be a phone call or a virtual video call.

Here at Scene City, we offer free consultation calls to ensure all your questions are answered. All you have to do is drop us a note

PLANNING AND PREPARATION

After you discuss initial details with the photographer, It’s time to plan and prepare for your headshot session. This includes wardrobe selection and grooming. Check out our blog, Preparing for Your Best Headshot that discusses in more detail on this. For wardrobe selection, check out our post, What to Wear for Your Headshot Session.

ARRIVAL AT STUDIO

Plan to arrive at the photography studio on time. The photographer will greet you and give you the lay of the land in the studio. Typically, you’ll have time to settle in and get changed.

For women, try to arrive at the studio makeup and hair ready. If you prefer to have someone do it for you, we offer makeup and hair services.

HEADSHOT SESSION

Ideally, your photographer will have the lighting setup and backdrop ready to go upon your arrival. Once you are ready, the photographer will guide you through the posing and direction process. This can be very helpful for those that have never done a photoshoot before. Your photographer will help you find your most flattering angles, adjust your posture and provide cues to achieve your best expression.

REVIEW AND SELECT YOUR IMAGES

During the session, the photographer may periodically review the images to ensure they are capturing your best angles and expressions. Once the session is complete, you’ll have the opportunity to review the images together and select the ones you’re most satisfied with. The photographer may provide guidance and recommendations based on their expertise to help you make the best choices.

EDITING AND FINAL TOUCHES

After you’ve chosen your preferred images, the photographer will proceed with post-processing. This typically involves editing the selected photos to enhance colors, adjust exposure, and fine-tune details. The goal is to create polished and professional headshots while maintaining your natural appearance. The final images may be delivered digitally or in print, depending on your agreement with the photographer.

CONCLUSION

A photoshoot session at a photography studio involves a series of steps and collaboration between you and the photographer. From the initial consultation to the final selection of images, the process is designed to capture your best self and create headshots that align with your goals and aspirations. By understanding what happens behind the scenes, you can approach your photoshoot session with confidence and make the most of this opportunity to showcase your unique personality and professional image.
